Henry 500
Marking the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII ‘ s accession to the throne in April 1509, a range of exclusive fine English bone china hand finished with 22 carat gold.
King Henry had a close association with St George’s Chapel and lies in a vault beneath the Quire. Henry completed the stone vaulting above the crossing from the Nave to the Quire that includes his coat of arms surrounded by those of his Knights of the Garter. This coat of arms features on the larger pieces of china.
The image of King Henry comes from the stained glass window in the South Quire Aisle. The predominant motifs are inspired by the decoration of the Oriel window that Henry built for his first wife Catherine of Aragon and include the recurring Tudor Rose in its usual form and in the halved form found on this window. The Tudor Rose was created by unifying the Red and White roses of the houses of Lancaster and York personified by Henry the son of Lancastrian Henry VII and his wife Elizabeth of York.
Presented in murray red gift boxes embossed with the Garter Badge in gold, each piece has an accompanying insert card with information about the design elements.
